Created by Glenn 5 years ago

Horace Stanley Bullock was born in Newmarket on the 13th May 1936, one of 5 children to Alfred and  Carrie Bullock.

He was a member of the Army Cadets and it was through this he met his beloved sweetheart Jenny at a church service in Fordham where she was attending as a member of the Girl Guides.

Stan spent some time as a fireman on the railways before joining the Suffolk Regiment, enlisting in 1954 as an 18 year old stationed at the Regimental Headquarters in Bury St Edmunds.

He and Jenny became engaged on the 13th May 1954 and wed on 9th November 1957 in Fordham church.  They lived in their first Army quarter in Coldmans Lane Cambridge. Their daughter Tina was born in 1958 in Cambridge and their son Glenn in 1961 in Berlin where Stan was stationed.

Stan and Jenny purchased the only house they ever owned in 1999 in Denham End, Barrow.

After retirement Stan was very active as a member of various Barrow and military organisations:

For a long period of time Stan was a loyal customer of the Three Horseshoes pub in The Street, Barrow and was a member of their golfing society, taking part in many events.

Together with Jenny they helped to organise a considerable number of the Barrow Horticultural Society flower shows.

Stan and Jenny travelled widely during their retirement years, taking in visits to Canada, the USA, Portugal, Canary Islands and many more. As part of the Barrow Carpet Bowls club they enjoyed an annual trip to Potters near Lowestoft and took part in many of the bowling competitions as pairs and as individuals.
